Faux de Verzy: the labelled discovery route

The ONF’s current Balade des Faux page gives the discovery route as 3 km, with an indicative 90-minute contemplative walk excluding detours. It carries Tourisme & Handicap recognition for motor, visual, hearing and cognitive needs. The named start is Parking des Faux on the RD34 between Verzy and Louvois.

ONF describes a stony-surfaced path without a steep gradient through the protected twisted-beech reserve. Around fifty trees are visible from the route. The Fau de Saint-Basle lies outside the main circuit, so a detour to a named tree should not be assumed to have the same access characteristics as the labelled discovery path.

Download ONF Découvertes and select “La balade des Faux” before arriving: the operator says the contents then work without an internet connection. ONF also links a downloadable route map. The longer Entre Vignes et Faux circuit is a separate 9.7 km, approximately three-hour walk in the regional park’s directory; it is not the accessible discovery circuit.

Phare de Verzenay: museum facilities, separate tower

The Phare de Verzenay is on rue du Phare, 51360 Verzenay. The government’s Acceslibre record, last validated on 11 July 2024, describes reserved parking, a level approach at least 90 cm wide, suitable surfacing and level entry. It also records adapted toilets and audio-description equipment available at reception. These statements concern the documented entrance and museum facilities.

The lighthouse viewpoint and museum are separate ticket components. Marne tourism describes the climb to a viewing height of 25 metres and lists €3 for the tower, €8 for the museum or €9 combined, checked October 2026. Museum access does not establish a step-free route to the tower top. Call +33 3 26 07 87 87 to request the museum route and the appropriate ticket.

The official tourism listing gives a 90-minute average visit and German, English, French and Dutch visitor languages at the Phare. Its tasting space stocks more than forty cuvées from Montagne de Reims growers. A seated museum-and-tasting visit can therefore be discussed independently of the lighthouse climb.

Bouzy: tasting-room access is not cellar access

Alfred Tritant is at 23 rue de Tours-sur-Marne, Bouzy, with +33 3 26 57 01 16. Épernay tourism lists the producer as PMR and distinguishes its Découverte tasting, lasting 45–60 minutes, from the Immersion cellar experience, lasting 75–90 minutes. Découverte starts at €12 and Immersion at €18, checked October 2026.

The tourist office’s January 2024 catalogue specifically records that Alfred Tritant’s tasting space can be accessed, but its cellar cannot. It also records adapted toilets and a parking area with a slight cross-slope. Name the Découverte tasting when discussing an appointment; do not buy the cellar product on the strength of a general PMR badge.

Ludes and railway villages need individual arrangements

Canard-Duchêne receives visitors at 1 rue Edmond-Canard, Ludes. Its cellar visit, vineyard component and boutique tasting are separate activities in the house guide. No verified full step-free cellar specification is supplied here. Send an access request through the house’s own visit booking route for the product you intend to take.

Rilly-la-Montagne and Germaine are stations on the Reims–Épernay TER route; the Parking des Faux and Phare de Verzenay are separate destinations. Use Getting There for named transfer operators, and give the booked attraction’s address. The Montagne de Reims guide identifies the village stops and route lengths.

Before you go

  • Save your booking confirmation and check its meeting point.
  • Carry the ID and travel documents required for your journey.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for town pavements and cellar floors.
  • Bring a layer for cooler underground spaces.
  • Arrange transport before tasting; never drink and drive.

What a Brit travelling here needs to know

  • Rail and flights: Eurostar links London St Pancras with Paris Gare du Nord; Reims and Épernay trains leave Paris Gare de l’Est. For a flight arrival, compare Paris Charles de Gaulle with your onward SNCF station and date in the transport guide.
  • Documents: for a British-citizen passport, GOV.UK specifies an issue date less than 10 years before arrival and expiry at least 3 months after leaving Schengen. Visa-free tourist visits are limited to 90 days in any 180. Read the current official entry requirements.
  • Money, language and clocks: France uses euros (€) and French; Champagne is 1 hour ahead of the UK. Select English explicitly on a house’s reservation page.
  • Local travel: Reims Centre and Champagne-Ardenne TGV are different stations. Épernay’s station serves the Avenue de Champagne; Hautvillers needs a road transfer. Use the car-free guide for named rail, taxi and tour options.

Entry details checked 23 October 2026. The official GOV.UK page covers other passport types and border procedures.
