London to Champagne: the station names matter
Eurostar runs from London St Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord. Its London–Paris page gives 2 hours 16 minutes for most services, with some taking up to 2 hours 37 minutes. The onward Champagne trains leave Paris Gare de l’Est, a different station. Book London–Paris with Eurostar and then search Paris Est–Reims or Paris Est–Épernay with SNCF Connect.
For Reims, select Reims station when the destination is the city centre. Champagne-Ardenne TGV is a separate station at Bezannes, outside Reims: the regional tourist board places it 8 km from the city. A ticket to Champagne-Ardenne TGV requires an onward tram or TER journey if your hotel is central. Épernay has its own railway station; an Épernay arrival avoids transferring from Reims for the Avenue de Champagne.
Walk from Gare du Nord to Gare de l’Est
Eurostar’s Gare du Nord guide gives about 10 minutes on foot between the stations. Its public transport alternative takes around 15 minutes: descend to Métro level −1, take line 4 towards Bagneux–Lucie Aubrac, and leave at the next stop, Gare de l’Est. Follow Grandes Lignes to the main railway concourse.
The 10 minutes is the station-to-station walk, not a complete international connection allowance. Eurostar’s guide says TGV boarding starts around 20 minutes before departure and doors close 2 minutes before. Use the two ticketed arrival and departure times to choose a connection that also allows for leaving the Eurostar platform, walking with luggage and finding the TGV platform.
A Paris Gare du Nord arrival followed by a Paris Est departure does not mean staying on the same train. Keep both tickets available: the Eurostar booking covers the international leg and the SNCF booking identifies the onward train. Trainline also sells rail tickets; compare the exact station names and conditions on the booking screen.

Paris Est to Reims
SNCF Connect currently advertises a fastest Paris–Reims journey of 46 minutes and a route average of 1 hour 13 minutes. Its timetable for Saturday 24 October 2026 shows TGV INOUI 2709 leaving Paris Est at 08:28 and reaching Reims at 09:14; TGV 2719 leaves at 10:28 and arrives at 11:14. These are dated examples, not a daily timetable.
The same route page includes slower journeys with changes. A search result taking two hours may use Château-Thierry and Épernay, while a 46-minute result is direct to Reims. Open the itinerary before paying and identify whether the arrival says Reims or Champagne-Ardenne TGV.
SNCF’s October snapshot advertises selected Paris–Reims fares from €15 one way in second class, subject to train, date and availability (checked October 2026). That is a booking-site starting fare, not a price promise for a particular weekend. The calendar and fare conditions on SNCF Connect control the ticket you buy.
Paris Est to Épernay
SNCF Connect gives 1 hour 19 minutes for the fastest Paris–Épernay journey and 1 hour 33 minutes as its current average. The 24 October 2026 timetable includes direct TRAIN NOMAD 39163, Paris Est 08:36 to Épernay 09:55, and TRAIN NOMAD 39109, 09:36 to 10:56. Search the date of your trip on the Paris–Épernay route page.
The route page advertises selected fares from €11 one way in second class (checked October 2026). Its results also include connections through Reims, so compare the full journey: the first train’s speed alone does not determine the arrival time in Épernay. On the dated example, the direct 08:36 train arrives only two minutes after the 08:28 departure using a Reims change.
Reims–Épernay trains serve the vineyard corridor through Rilly-la-Montagne, Germaine, Avenay and Aÿ on selected services. The SNCF itinerary for 24 October shows the 09:19 Reims departure reaching Aÿ at 09:46 and Épernay at 09:53. Those stops can support a car-free trip, but a house appointment still needs to fit the train you actually book.

Champagne-Ardenne TGV and airport arrivals
Grand Est’s official access guide gives an indicative Paris–Champagne-Ardenne TGV journey of 40 minutes, with onward tram access to Reims. This can be useful for a hotel or pickup near Bezannes; it is not the same arrival as Reims Centre. For an organised tour, use the station printed on the operator’s meeting instructions.
The Reims e-bike tour operated by À la Française meets at the tourist office beside Reims Centre station. Its instructions explicitly distinguish that office from the cathedral tourist office. A booking that says Cour de la Gare therefore should not be treated as an invitation to wait at the cathedral or at Champagne-Ardenne TGV.
For flights into Paris Charles de Gaulle, search the SNCF station named Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV and the actual Champagne destination. No fixed airport transfer duration is quoted here: the service and connection determine it. A same-day tasting reservation should follow the arrival shown in the rail booking, not an assumed airport-to-Reims time.
Driving from Britain via LeShuttle
LeShuttle’s crossing information gives 35 minutes through the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone to Calais. Its vehicle ticket covers up to 9 people. The crossing time excludes terminal arrival, border controls, loading and the drive from Calais; LeShuttle’s own Reims guide describes the onward drive as under 3 hours.
The A26 links Calais and Reims. LeShuttle’s Reims driving guide and the official Troyes access guidance identify that motorway corridor. A current Calais–Reims toll total was not verified for the precise entry, exit and vehicle class, so no toll range is published. Use the motorway operator’s route calculator for the car and route you will take.
In Épernay, the tourist office lists the Jard underground car park, entered from rue Eugène Mercier, 150 m on foot from its office. Centre-Ville parking has entrances at place Hugues Plomb and boulevard du Cubry, around 700 m from the office. The office’s practical information says the first hour in these underground car parks is free; street parking beside the office is paid.
Épernay taxis and bicycle hire
The Épernay tourist office’s 2026 territory map lists ABC Taxi on +33 6 30 81 69 58, Agil Taxi on +33 3 26 59 04 14 and Épernay Taxi on +33 3 26 59 01 44. Give the dispatcher the house’s visitor address, the appointment time and the return pickup location; a house’s avenue tasting room may be separate from its production cellars.
The same official map lists Épernay Bike Hire (+33 7 67 92 05 01), De la Selle au Guidon (+33 6 15 70 06 11), Faci-e-Bike (+33 6 73 43 06 83) and Pedal ’N’ Pop in Aÿ (+33 6 81 17 91 08). Ask the named supplier about the collection point, helmet, battery range and return arrangement for the route being booked.
Reims tourist office identifies ZébullO as its public electric bicycle service, Manu Loca Vélo for a day rental and Un Vélo pour la Planète for guided electric-bike rides. ZébullO is an urban station-based service; a rental from one of those suppliers is a different arrangement from an organised vineyard excursion. Never drink and drive on tasting days; the À la Française e-bike itinerary places the tasting after the ride.
What a Brit travelling there needs to know
France uses euros and French local time, one hour ahead of the UK. For a British citizen passport, GOV.UK’s France entry requirements specify issue less than 10 years before arrival and validity at least 3 months after planned Schengen departure. Visa-free tourist visits are limited to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area.
GOV.UK says the Entry/Exit System may require a facial image and fingerprints at the border, with no registration charge. For Eurostar at St Pancras or LeShuttle at Folkestone, those entry formalities take place before leaving Britain. Follow the operator’s arrival instructions on the ticket instead of adding a made-up universal check-in time.
Book an English-language cellar slot if that is the language you need: a house with an English website may operate different tours at different times. Our house pages link the official booking pages. For a first base, compare central Reims for cathedral and station access with Épernay for the Avenue de Champagne; the linked town guides identify the actual houses and entrances.
Assistance for the Eurostar and French train legs
Eurostar’s assistance page asks passengers to pre-book help at least 24 hours before travel, after booking their ticket. This concerns the Eurostar leg: a Paris station change and a separate SNCF train require their own arrangements. The accessible-travel connection guidance explains how to address the onwards part of the trip.
SNCF Connect directs station-assistance bookings to Assist’enGare, advising a request as soon as the train is booked and at least 24 hours before departure. Give the actual train, station and requirement. Reims, Champagne-Ardenne TGV and Épernay must be identified individually; a request for “Champagne” is not a station booking.
For a wheelchair-space reservation, keep the train booking and assistance record together. Eurostar’s accessible connection page covers the ramp and assistance request; SNCF’s assistance page covers boarding and alighting on the French leg. The approximately 10-minute Nord–Est walk is a standard walking figure and does not specify an accessible transfer duration.
A car collected in Champagne
Épernay tourist office names E. Leclerc Pierry as a local car-rental option, reached by bus lines 6 and 7, and SIXT at 8 rue Pingat beside Reims city-centre station. Its access page places Épernay 6 km from Hautvillers and 28 km from Reims. These are its town-to-town figures, distinct from a hotel-to-cellar route.
A Reims collection can follow a Reims Centre rail arrival, while a Pierry collection needs the onward journey from Épernay. State the actual pickup branch when reserving a rental. If a cellar day includes drinking, use the rental for the non-tasting part of the stay and arrange a driver for the house appointments.
For a UK-registered car driven across the Channel, GOV.UK’s France driving guidance says a UK photocard licence can be used in France. A paper licence may require updating or the appropriate international driving permit. GOV.UK also directs drivers to the UK identifier rules, which replaced the old GB sticker system.
Book the last kilometres with a named supplier
For an Épernay-based taxi request, ABC Taxi’s published number is +33 6 30 81 69 58; Agil Taxi is +33 3 26 59 04 14; Épernay Taxi is +33 3 26 59 01 44. Send the visitor entrance, not only the Champagne brand. Mercier’s visitor centre is at 68 avenue de Champagne, while Leclerc Briant’s cellar site differs from its Le 25bis avenue address.
The 2026 tourism map gives Épernay Bike Hire as +33 7 67 92 05 01 and De la Selle au Guidon as +33 6 15 70 06 11. Faci-e-Bike’s number is +33 6 73 43 06 83. For Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the Hautvillers tourist office separately lists Les vélos du Clos la Chapelle, 19 rue Duval, on +33 6 22 95 64 39.
Clos la Chapelle’s listed hire rates are €15 for a conventional bike half day or €20 for a day, and €25/€35 for an electric bike half day/day (checked October 2026). Those are that supplier’s hire tariffs, not the cost of a guided tour. A guided e-bike excursion can include vehicle pickup, cellar admission and lunch as separate priced inclusions.
A concrete rail-and-taxi enquiry
For a late arrival at Épernay, give the taxi operator the train number, booked arrival time and accommodation address. The tourist office’s 2026 map lists ABC Taxi on +33 6 30 81 69 58 and Épernay Taxi on +33 3 26 59 01 44. For an arrival at Champagne-Ardenne TGV, specify that station explicitly: it is outside central Reims, unlike Reims Centre at Cour de la Gare. A taxi quotation to Hautvillers from one station does not establish the charge from the other.
Keep the station name on the booking
For a Reims arrival, the choice between Reims Centre and Champagne-Ardenne TGV determines the onward connection. Retain the complete station name when sending the itinerary to a hotel or taxi operator, and enter the same station in the return search.
