Paris to Reims and Épernay by train

Paris Est puts Reims as little as 46 minutes away and Épernay about 1 hour 20 minutes away on the fastest trains advertised by SNCF Connect. Arriving from London means changing stations first: Eurostar uses Gare du Nord, while the Champagne trains leave Gare de l’Est.

Choose the Champagne station before the train

For the cathedral, central hotels and most Reims tour pickups, search for Reims. For the Avenue de Champagne, search for Épernay. A third name, Champagne-Ardenne TGV, belongs to the high-speed station at Bezannes, which the Grand Est tourist board places 8km outside Reims. All three are genuine railway destinations, but they lead to different arrivals.

The quickest Paris train is useful only if it ends at your intended base. A 40-minute journey to Champagne-Ardenne TGV still needs its local connection for central Reims. A direct Paris–Épernay train can suit a Moët or Mercier booking without an additional Reims transfer. Put the exact station name into SNCF Connect or Trainline, then open the complete itinerary.

For an easy first visit, compare the Champagne day trip from Paris with a weekend in Reims. The first uses a named morning cellar reservation; the second leaves room for a cathedral visit and a second house. Both begin with Reims Centre, not Bezannes.

Gare du Nord to Gare de l’Est

Eurostar’s connection guidance gives approximately 10 minutes on foot between Paris Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est. The stations are close enough for a walking transfer, but there is no through train from the Eurostar platform to a Champagne cellar. Take your luggage off the international train and follow the signs to the main exit before continuing to Gare de l’Est.

That 10-minute figure describes the walk between stations. It does not include leaving the Eurostar carriage, crossing the Gare du Nord concourse, finding the next platform or dealing with a delayed arrival. Read the arrival time on the Eurostar ticket alongside the departure time on the SNCF ticket. A separate Paris Est reservation has its own train number and boarding conditions.

Gare du Nord remains the return destination for Eurostar even when your train from Épernay arrives at Gare de l’Est. Save both Paris station names in your phone, along with the Eurostar booking reference and the SNCF journey. The London–Paris booking page covers the international service; it does not replace the French ticket.

Paris Est to Reims: the direct city-centre option

SNCF Connect’s Paris–Reims page advertises a fastest journey of 46 minutes. Its October 2026 route summary gives an average of approximately 1 hour 10 minutes across the displayed results. The fastest figure and the average describe different things: the results can include both direct high-speed services and slower journeys with changes.

For a Reims city break, look for a direct TGV INOUI arrival at Reims. The city-centre station opens onto Cour de la Gare, the meeting area used by several organised Champagne excursions. A tour operator may identify its meeting point as the tourist office beside that station; Reims also has a tourist office by the cathedral, so keep the actual pickup instructions with the train booking.

The Paris–Reims route search displays date-specific departures and the names of any interchange stations. An itinerary via Épernay can be perfectly valid, but it is a different journey from the 46-minute direct TGV. Select the arrival station and the number of changes before choosing a fare.

Reims’s chalk-cellar houses sit beyond the station forecourt. Taittinger receives visitors at 9 place Saint-Nicaise, Ruinart at 4 rue des Crayères and Pommery at 5 place du Général Gouraud. Add the onward walk, local transport or tour pickup to the rail arrival; those visitor addresses are not platforms within Reims station.

Paris Est to Épernay: straight to the Avenue

The Paris–Épernay route page advertises a fastest journey of 1 hour 20 minutes, with an October 2026 average of around 1 hour 34 minutes. SNCF’s route summaries change with the selected timetable, so use those figures to compare the route and use the booking result for your actual arrival.

Direct services shown on this corridor can carry the TRAIN NOMAD name. Other results connect through Reims. Open the itinerary and read the complete sequence of trains: a TGV first leg does not automatically give the quickest arrival at Épernay. The direct route avoids changing stations within Champagne before an Avenue de Champagne appointment.

Épernay tourist office places its address, 7 avenue de Champagne, less than 500m from the station forecourt. Its walking directions lead through place Mendès-France, past the theatre, across rue de Reims and through the Hôtel de Ville garden. The office has entrances from the avenue and the garden side, useful reference points when finding your way with luggage.

From that end of the avenue, Moët’s visitor entrance is number 18, Boizel’s Atelier 1834 is number 46 and Mercier is number 68. A train ticket to Épernay therefore gets you to the town, not directly to every booked house. Use the Épernay guide to join the street addresses into an Avenue walk.

The October 2026 Paris–Épernay fare calendar marks some dates with CAR Fluo. Open those results before buying: a coach leg has its own boarding instructions and must not be mistaken for a train leaving a Paris Est platform. The date-specific itinerary is the place to find the vehicle, meeting point and any interchange.

Champagne-Ardenne TGV is a separate arrival

Explore Grand Est gives an indicative Paris–Champagne-Ardenne TGV time of 40 minutes and identifies tram access onward to Reims. Its station is at Bezannes, outside the central city. Search the onward local journey as part of your arrival plan, particularly when a hotel, restaurant or tour booking says Reims Centre.

Champagne-Ardenne TGV also appears in journeys from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. The airport railway station is named Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV. An airport arrival, a Bezannes arrival and a city-centre Reims arrival are three distinct points: use the flight’s landing time and the dated railway result when comparing that option with a journey through Paris.

Reims to Épernay by train

SNCF Connect lists the Reims–Épernay railway distance as about 31km and advertises a fastest journey of 23 minutes. The stopping train can take longer. Its Sunday 25 October 2026 timetable shows a direct departure at 09:19 reaching Épernay at 09:53, a 34-minute journey. This is a dated example, not a permanent daily timetable.

That 09:19 example calls at Franchet d’Esperey, Maison Blanche, Rilly-la-Montagne, Germaine, Avenay and Aÿ-Champagne. The Aÿ arrival is 09:46 in the same example. These named stops make vineyard-village visits possible by rail, but the cellar appointment must fit the particular train that stops there.

The same Sunday search contains an 18:31–18:54 direct Reims–Épernay service lasting 23 minutes. It also shows a much slower late result connecting through Champagne-Ardenne TGV and Paris Est. Read the route, not only the destination: those results have very different usefulness after a tasting. Search both Reims–Épernay and Épernay–Reims for your date.

TGV, regional tickets and booking conditions

SNCF Connect advertises selected one-way second-class fares from €15 for Paris–Reims and €11 for Paris–Épernay (checked October 2026), subject to the listed trains, dates and availability. Those starting fares are separate from any Eurostar ticket. Compare the total for the international leg, the Paris connection and the Champagne leg before choosing a departure.

TGV INOUI uses advance seat reservations. SNCF Connect lets you choose the journey, then view the fare conditions before payment. Second-class and first-class offers have different conditions, and promotional fares can have restrictions. Keep the selected fare wording with your ticket; a flexible hotel booking does not change the conditions of a separately bought TGV fare.

SNCF’s general exchange guidance says eligible TGV INOUI tickets can be changed or cancelled without a fee up to seven days before departure. From six days before departure, its standard guidance gives a €19 deduction per person per journey (checked October 2026). The fare-specific conditions shown in your booking determine whether that rule applies to the ticket selected.

Regional TER tickets follow the relevant region’s fare conditions. SNCF Connect explains that, unless the ticket says otherwise, a TER ticket is valid for one journey on the selected route and date, and some promotional fares are non-refundable. A TGV–TER connection can therefore contain two tickets with different exchange rules. Keep both available for inspection.

For a straightforward purchase, enter Paris Est and the intended Champagne station, select the travel date and passenger details, and open the result’s fare conditions. SNCF Connect then provides secure payment and the ticket record. Trainline offers another booking route; compare the same stations, train and conditions when deciding between sellers.

Luggage and station assistance

SNCF’s current TGV INOUI luggage guidance permits two suitcases plus one small item, or one suitcase, one special item and one small item. Its maximum suitcase dimensions are 70 × 90 × 50cm, and hand luggage is limited to 40 × 30 × 15cm. You must be able to carry your belongings yourself and label them. The Gare du Nord–Gare de l’Est walk is a practical reason to pack around that journey.

Assist’enGare is SNCF’s station-assistance booking platform. SNCF advises requesting it when you book your train and at least 24 hours before departure. Its guidance asks passengers to report to the assistance meeting point at least 30 minutes before the French train; Eurostar London departures have a separate 60-minute instruction in that guidance. Arrange the Paris station transfer separately from platform boarding assistance.

For station assistance, SNCF lists 3212 within France and +33 9 72 72 00 92 from abroad, with the booking line open daily 08:00–20:00. The service covers eligible disabled travellers and people with reduced mobility, including boarding and alighting assistance. Give the actual station name—Reims, Épernay or Champagne-Ardenne TGV—and the booked train number.
