This 1 day rail plan uses Reims, not Épernay. SNCF advertises a fastest Paris–Reims journey of 46 minutes. The 08:28 example is from 24 October 2026; the house visit and restaurant are reservations to obtain separately.

Suggested reservation slots

The times below are suggested reservation slots for the named Reims and Épernay houses. The operator’s calendar supplies the actual departure; the paid ticket is tied to that departure. Numbered map points follow the Champagne stops. Allow extra time for stops between the numbered map points.

08:28 example train — Paris Gare de l’Est to Reims

Paris Est → Cour de la Gare, Reims. SNCF’s 24 October 2026 example TGV 2709 leaves Paris Est 08:28 and reaches Reims 09:14:46 minutes. This is a dated example, not a daily timetable. Book a Reims Centre arrival, then select a Taittinger departure that leaves room for the city transfer.

Route to Notre-Dame Cathedral: about 1.0 km, 14 minutes on foot. Open the route

09:30 suggested stop — Notre-Dame Cathedral

Place du Cardinal-Luçon, Reims. Use the morning for the cathedral façade and interior. The Smiling Angel and Chagall windows belong to the cathedral visit; the neighbouring Palais du Tau is closed for renovation. Reims’s cathedral listing dates to 1991, separate from the Champagne industrial landscape inscribed 2015.

10:30 reservation target — Taittinger

9 place Saint-Nicaise, Reims. Instant Rosé lasts 70 minutes and costs from €40, with Brut Réserve and Prestige Rosé. Select the actual English departure offered on the chosen date. If the slot is unavailable, move the cathedral stop after the cellar visit; do not buy a rail ticket around an unbooked 10:30 assumption.

Route to Brasserie du Boulingrin: about 2.3 km, 31 minutes on foot. Open the route

12:30 lunch target — Brasserie du Boulingrin

31 rue de Mars, Reims. The restaurant’s own site advertises a €27 (checked October 2026) formula including starter, main, dessert, drink and coffee. Its booking form requires the restaurant’s reply before the table is secured. The published service week is Monday–Saturday, so this version is designed for a Saturday instead of a Sunday.

14:30 city stop — Place Drouet-d’Erlon

Place Drouet-d’Erlon, Reims. Finish in the central pedestrian restaurant district before returning to Cour de la Gare. Reims Centre is the departure station for the booked Paris return; Champagne-Ardenne TGV is not interchangeable with it.

Verified purchases and the unpriced parts

Verified visit-and-lunch subtotal:€67 per adult, comprising Taittinger Instant Rosé €40 and Brasserie du Boulingrin formula €27. SNCF advertises Paris–Reims from €15 one-way on selected services, but this is not a quote for both trains. Add the actual outward and return fares to €67; no all-in total is invented. Prices checked October 2026; availability and selected options determine the booking total.

Accommodation for the named base

Search accommodation in Reims through Find stays in Reims ↗. The accommodation directory lists named properties by town; Booking.com supplies the current room terms and dates.

Book the route in this order

Buy the actual Taittinger Instant Rosé departure, then the matching Paris Est–Reims outward and return trains. Request Brasserie du Boulingrin for the 12:30 lunch, on a Monday–Saturday service day. The 08:28 TGV example is dated 24 October 2026; it is not a daily service guarantee.the house directory to open the actual producer calendar. For this 5-stop route, reserve the paid appointments first, then the named restaurant, transport and accommodation. No 9:00 or 10:30 slot above becomes a ticket until the operator accepts it.

Access on this route

Taittinger’s official booking pages describe numerous stairs in the underground route at 9 place Saint-Nicaise. The quoted cellar temperature is about 12°C. A city-centre pavement route and the underground visit have different access conditions; send the exact assistance request to Taittinger before buying the named experience.

From the Paris platform to the booked cellar

The 08:28 example departure is TGV 2709 from Paris Gare de l’Est, arriving Reims at 09:14 on 24 October 2026. A traveller coming off Eurostar must first change stations: Eurostar describes Gare du Nord to Gare de l’Est as about ten minutes on foot. That walk is only the station-to-station movement, not the whole allowance for passport procedures, leaving the arriving train, finding the new platform and boarding the TGV. This day-trip programme begins in Paris; it is not a same-morning London departure plan.

On SNCF Connect, enter Reims as the destination for this central-city route. Champagne-Ardenne TGV is at Bezannes, with an onward connection to Reims; the two station names do not describe adjacent platforms. The advertised Paris–Reims minimum is 46 minutes, and selected one-way fares start at €15. The exact trains and fare conditions come from the dated result. An earlier arrival gives more cathedral time; the cellar booking still remains tied to its named departure.

Three cellar alternatives on Saint-Nicaise Hill

Taittinger’s €40 Instant Rosé is 70 minutes with Brut Réserve and Prestige Rosé. For this route, the cathedral-to-Taittinger walking estimate is about 1.6 km and 22 minutes. Ruinart’s standard Crayères visit is a longer 120-minute appointment at €90 with two signature cuvées; its address is 4 rue des Crayères and the cathedral walk is approximately 2.2 km or 31 minutes.

Pommery is at 5 place du Général Gouraud, approximately 1.9 km or 26 minutes from Notre-Dame on the mapped walking route. Its Brut Royal cellar product is listed at €30 self-guided or €36 guided for 45 minutes. Pommery combines chalk cellars with contemporary art; Ruinart uses a longer guided quarry-and-wine format. These are replacements for the Taittinger slot when booking the day, not extra appointments squeezed into the same morning.

The cathedral detail visible without adding another journey

The Smiling Angel is on the north portal of Notre-Dame’s western façade. Chagall’s three stained-glass windows were installed in the axial chapel in 1974. The façade’s kings’ gallery belongs to the cathedral’s sculptural programme, which the monument operator counts at 2,302 statues, including 58 royal figures. The 249-step tower route is separately ticketed; it needs its own reservation and time allocation beyond the floor visit in this day-trip schedule.

The Palais du Tau, beside the cathedral on place du Cardinal Luçon, was the archbishops’ residence and the setting for coronation banquets. Its October 2026 website still announces renovation and a future visitor route. The palace exterior can be seen on the cathedral stop, but this plan includes no interior admission. The cathedral, palace and former Saint-Remi Abbey form the 1991 World Heritage property; Saint-Nicaise’s Champagne cellars belong to the separate 2015 inscription.

Boulingrin after the €27 lunch

The Halles du Boulingrin date from 1929. For a Saturday version of this itinerary, the city market page lists 06:00–14:00, so the market fits before or immediately after the 12:30 brasserie reservation. Friday is listed at 07:00–13:00. The newer city page is used here because another tourist listing still includes Wednesday and Friday-evening sessions. Saturday’s published finish is the relevant limit for this particular lunch-and-market sequence.

At 2 rue Olivier Métra, Trésors de Champagne is a named shop and tasting address in the same quarter. Maison Fossier’s cathedral-area shop is at 25 cours Jean-Baptiste Langlet and sells biscuits roses, croquignoles and bouchons au marc. Those are two concrete shopping stops for the return walk through central Reims. A Fossier factory tour is at the separate La Neuvillette site, so it is outside this short city circuit and needs its own booking.

A cultural replacement for the afternoon square stop

If the return train leaves room for a museum appointment, Musée-Hôtel Le Vergeur–Maison Hugues Krafft is at 36 place du Forum. The museum operates guided visits with a maximum of fifteen people per slot and a Monday closure in its current timetable. It also has separate garden access. A booked museum visit would replace the 14:30 city-square stop in this programme; access to the garden does not establish that an interior guided departure is available at that hour.

The Musée de la Reddition is the alternative at 12 rue Franklin Roosevelt, on the station side of the city. Its War Room is associated with the German surrender signed on 7 May 1945. The official museum page carries current access notices and the visit arrangements. The place du Forum and rue Franklin Roosevelt museums are different buildings with different operator schedules, so neither is sold as an included admission with Taittinger’s €40 cellar ticket.

For a short architectural stop close to Notre-Dame, Bibliothèque Carnegie is at 2 place Carnegie. The city dates its inauguration to 1928 and identifies President Gaston Doumergue at the opening. Its Art Deco architecture belongs to Reims’s reconstruction story. Deneux’s cathedral roof, rebuilt in 1924–1926 after the 1914 fire, is another part of that story but appears on the separate high-level monument route. This day plan can include the library’s exterior without implying an unbooked cathedral tower tour.

Before you go

  • Save your booking confirmation and check its meeting point.
  • Carry the ID and travel documents required for your journey.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for town pavements and cellar floors.
  • Bring a layer for cooler underground spaces.
  • Arrange transport before tasting; never drink and drive.

What a Brit travelling here needs to know

  • Rail and flights: Eurostar links London St Pancras with Paris Gare du Nord; Reims and Épernay trains leave Paris Gare de l’Est. For a flight arrival, compare Paris Charles de Gaulle with your onward SNCF station and date in the transport guide.
  • Documents: for a British-citizen passport, GOV.UK specifies an issue date less than 10 years before arrival and expiry at least 3 months after leaving Schengen. Visa-free tourist visits are limited to 90 days in any 180. Read the current official entry requirements.
  • Money, language and clocks: France uses euros (€) and French; Champagne is 1 hour ahead of the UK. Select English explicitly on a house’s reservation page.
  • Local travel: Reims Centre and Champagne-Ardenne TGV are different stations. Épernay’s station serves the Avenue de Champagne; Hautvillers needs a road transfer. Use the car-free guide for named rail, taxi and tour options.

Entry details checked 23 October 2026. The official GOV.UK page covers other passport types and border procedures.
